Our abiding faith in the purity and wholesomeness of Burger King products was briefly shaken yesterday after seeing this photo of an anonymous employee proudly standing in two tubs of lettuce. How would we ever let a pristine Whopper cross the threshold into the temple of our mouth holes again? Thankfully, moments before we could toss a match onto our bonfire of souvenir cardboard crowns, the web-savvy crowd at 4chan/Anonymous sprang into action—and it took them all of 15 minutes to locate the Burger King where the photo was taken. Cleveland Scene reports:
Anonymous, the online collective famous for high-profile hackings, internet sleuthing, and virtual attacks against monster companies like Mastercard, didn't take too kindly to senor asshole's post and quickly destroyed his nameless, faceless designs by grabbing the GPS data from the picture, which our mastermind was too dumb to strip before posting. You can also sorta see a barcode in the background on a box, which would have been another clue.
It took all of 15 minutes, according to HyperVocal.com, to find out that the employee worked at the Burger King in Mayfield Heights [Ohio]. Phone calls and emails ensued.
4chan users also alerted the local media in Ohio, and justice was swiftly meted out. Burger King's corporate headquarters fired off this statement: “Burger King Corp. has recently been made aware of a photo posted on a social networking site that allegedly shows a BURGER KING® restaurant employee violating the company’s stringent food handling procedures. Food safety is a top priority at all BURGER KING® restaurants and the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations such as the one in question.
"The restaurant where this photo was allegedly taken is independently-owned and operated by a BURGER KING® franchisee. The franchisee has taken swift action to investigate this matter and terminated the employee involved in this incident." Cleveland Scene also called the Burger King yesterday morning and spoke with Andrea, the manager on duty. After being shown the photo, Andrea said, "Oh, I know who that is. He's getting fired. And whoever the manager was at the time will be fired, too." Have it your way, Andrea!
And so, thanks to 4chan and Anonymous, with whom we have no beef, BURGER KING®: is safe once again from lettuce-tainting employees. In Mayfield Heights, Ohio, anyway. [Via Gawker]
