Now that terrible millennials have saved vinyl records from extinction (YOU'RE WELCOME), a new Bed-Stuy coffee shop is attempting to bring two more dying media formats back from the brink: VHS and cassette tapes.
According to DNAinfo, Playground Coffee Shop will be opening in Bed-Stuy in September. And to help differentiate it from the other neighborhood coffee shops, owner Zenat Begum told the site that it will be a place for you to add to that VHS or cassette tape collection your parents still have stored away somewhere. Although, what do I know, the cassette tape apparently isn't dead (or maybe it is?)
"These mediums of art and music are easily shareable and essentially the most creative," Begum told DNAinfo.
Playground, which is taking over the space that housed Begum's father's hardware store, will also sell zines (which millennials also helped keep alive, YOU'RE WELCOME, again) and host readings, poetry slams, art shows and other performances. Now if only someone opened a store that sold VCRs. Or is that just called "the dump"?
