As it is with pizza and bagels, every day is burger day in NYC, from the lowbrow bar versions to the over the top creations we'll only dream about. To celebrate the humble meat patty meal we have Burger Week, an annual tribute to the staple of backyard bbqs and fast food joints everywhere. Now in its third year, the foodie fest presents burger lovers of all kinds with off-menu treats at their local watering holes, fun chef mashups and even some amped up burger crawls designed to test the top button on your Levis. There's a new event each night during the May 1st through 7th fete; here's what we'll be chowing down on:
Eastern Meets Western Burger Collaboration: Our love for the Ramen Burger is well documented (JUST TRY IT!), so we're excited to see chefs giving the creation its due as well. On May 1st, Ramen Burger creator Keizo Shimamoto will swap places, so to speak, with Chef Jeff Maslanka at The Black Shack, with each chef creating versions of the other's signature burger. Shimamoto will make a pork belly burger with bamboo shoots, mushrooms and powdered fried ramen noodles; Maslanka will make a spaghetti and meatball ramen burger with "gravy" and mozzarella. Dinner includes the two burgers (to split between two guests), Sloppy Joe-za Gyoza and a Lemon Ginger Wit Beer milkshake. Thursday, May 1st, 6:30 p.m. at The Black Shack; Tickets $45 for two.
NY Burger Week's Burger Crawl: We're all for getting a little exercise in between gorging on meaty delights, especially when it's all for a good cause like Autism Speaks. Such is the case here, where you'll visit 11 bars in the East Village, Murray Hill and Kips Bay with an Amstel Light and $3 burger specials waiting you at each stop. Check in beginning at 12:30 p.m. and see how many beers and burgers you can consume until the crawl ends at 7 p.m. This is gluttony at its best, and isn't decadence what eating a burger is all about? Saturday, May 3rd, check-in starting at 12:30 p.m. Tickets $34.99.

Idle Hands Bar (Foursquare)
AC/DC "Back In Black" Angus Burger and Beer Pairing: Beer is the natural ally of the burger, which is why Idle Hands Bar in Alphabet City will offer five beer tastes to accompany three off-menu AC/DC-themed mini burgers—oh, and you get a shot of whiskey as well. Rock'N'Roll! Also rocking, 10 tracks from Back in Black to soundtrack your eating and an order of tater tots because why not go all the way? The Burger Week founder Rev Ciancio also has a hand in the bar, so expect epic things from his home turf. Tuesday, May 6th, 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. seatings. Tickets $30.
10th Anniversary Screening of Hamburge America: George Motz highlighted eight different American burger joints in his 2004 documentary, going on to expand his knowledge to a book that includes 150 burgers across the States. An NYC screening of the film in LIC went on to launch The Food Film Festival, which servers attendees bites from the films they're watching on screen. At this event, Motz and Jeffrey Maslanka will attempt to recreate three iconic burgers from the original film: The Green Chile Cheeseburger from The Bobcat Bite in Santa Fe, NM; The Guberburger from The Wheel Inn in Sedalia, MO; and, most importantly, The Butter Burger from Solly’s Grille in Milwaukee, WI. Yes, a burger and butter together in NYC at last. Wednesday, May 7th, 6:30 p.m. at Tribeca Cinemas. Tickets $45.
