If I comment right before the commenting closes, will it still get posted?

Yes. All approved comments will be posted, even if they are approved after the comment period closed.

What are Gothamist’s community guidelines?

To keep the discussion constructive, we ask you to follow some basic guidelines:

Be civil and respectful: Please respond insightfully and thoughtfully. If you disagree with a comment, audio piece, or article, please focus on its content and ideas and not the writer/reporter. Personal attacks and hate speech attacking any person or group on the basis of race, sex, religion, sexual/gender orientation, or any similar characteristics will not be tolerated. Neither will obscenity, trolling, or doxxing (releasing a person’s private information, such as their address).

Stay on topic: If you have general questions or concerns with WNYC Radio or problems getting to content on any of NYPR’s websites, please contact Listener Services. Your comments should be responsive to the article or post to which they’re connected.

Keep it short and clear: Limit your posts to about 300 words. If you have to scroll to read your comment, it's probably too long. Think of this as a mini-essay. Good grammar, spelling, and punctuation make it easier for everyone to understand your ideas.

Be yourself and only post your own work: Do not impersonate anyone else.

No spamming: We do not allow commercial promotion or endorsements of any type.

No external links: We do not allow comments that contain links to external sites.

Don’t feed the trolls: We value debate on our pages but want it to be productive. If you believe someone else is violating these guidelines, don’t engage – just flag and report the offending comments.

Our guidelines can be found at the start of every comments section.

How do I report offensive comments that violate the community guidelines?

If there are specific offensive comments, we ask that you please report it. Each comment has 3 small dots next to it, which allows users to report that comment to our Gothamist staff. We also recommend that readers not engage with or argue with trolls.

If you are unable to find the answer you are looking for, please contact us here.

Our goal is to provide our listeners and readers at WNYC the highest-quality independent, fact-based news and information about the New York City metro region.

Making sure we are giving our listeners and readers the best local journalism is our top priority. That includes selecting stories based on what our community needs to know to be informed and engaged, and providing information that enables individuals to make decisions that benefit themselves, their families and their communities.

Our newsroom takes several steps to ensure what we publish and broadcast is timely, accurate, clear, thorough, fair and relevant. Here are some of the ways we make sure of it:

However, despite our diligent efforts to make sure everything published by our newsroom is timely, accurate, clear, thorough, fair and relevant, we occasionally make mistakes. When we do, we will correct them. Your trust in our journalism is paramount, and we know owning up to when we get things wrong is important to keeping that trust.

Here’s how we correct our mistakes:

If you believe you’ve heard or read something that does not meet our standards or that you believe needs to be corrected, please contact our Listener Services department at [email protected].
