The rumors were right: Michael Strahan, the former Giants defensive end (he's got his "10-table ring") was announced as Kelly Ripa's new co-host for Live! With Kelly. The AP reports on today's show, "Strahan appeared relaxed and amiable on his first day and drew 'ahhhs' from women in the studio audience when he presented Ripa with a dozen red roses. 'It's so nice to have a co-host literally sweep you off your feet,' Ripa said, 'and I know that he can bench press me if he wanted to.'"
Strahan was thrilled, "I am speechless. I am so happy to be here and be a part of this. You know how they say it's a dream come true. Well, I truly can't say that because I didn't know I could even dream this." Overall, Ripa said that she had a wonderful experience with all her guest co-hosts since Regis Philbin retired last fall, but there was an exception—Ripa said, "I have enjoyed every single solitary person except for one. The staff is laughing because they know that's true." Hmm—dare we speculate?
Strahan will now enjoy new scrutiny as half of a popular morning talk show. Tabloids have loved covering his bitter divorce and alleged spying on now-fiance Nicole Murphy—who happens to be the ex-wife of Eddie Murphy, and a regular on VH1's "Hollywood Exes."
Anyway, enjoy this video of Kelly and Michael and some zoo animals:
