Well, it’s Thursday again, which means that for many of us lower rungs on the corporate ladder it’s the dreaded Day Before Payday. Personally we spent the morning playing our favorite game “Paying the Man in the Coffee Box With Things We Found in Our Purse,” so we’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for any fun, and more importantly, free events. Our overly linguistic mother liked to stress that one should endeavor to live an inexpensive existence, but never a cheap one. So, we think she’d be happy to find out that we’ll likely be attending tonight’s “Where Fashion Meets Art” event at the Whitney Museum.

2005_04_artsmadave.jpgFor the next two weeks, fashion houses along Madison Avenue will be hosting in-store exhibitions of art reflecting the aesthetic philosophies of the various designers. The artwork will be on loan from participating Madison Avenue galleries or will come directly from the designers' personal collections. A percentage of all sales made during the exhibition period will go to the Whitney’s family program, which provides tours and special activities designed to foster a shared family experience of art and the museum.

Tonight, in order to celebrate this collaborative benefit, the Whitney will be open late and will offer free admission from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Free tours of the exhibitions will also be available throughout the evening, so we think it’s a good chance to see what’s going on at museum. Also, for anyone who has not yet seen it, it’s one of the final opportunities to catch the wonderful CY Twombly show before it closes next week.

Further information about “Where Fashion Meets Art” is available at www.madisonavenuebid.org, including a list of participating stores and exhibited artwork.
