Dogs are the best and stop-motion animated films are generally delightful, so it's very exciting that director Wes Anderson has combined those two great things together for his latest movie, the carefully-crafted canine dystopian tale of Isle Of Dogs.

The lovely first trailer makes it look like the perfect middle ground between Fantastic Mr. Fox (one of Anderson's most emotional and underrated films), Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel. The fact that it has a murderer's row of voice actors both new (Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Courtney B. Vance) and old hat (Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, F. Murray Abraham) to Anderson's world is a great sign. And if the movie happens to include an obscure Kinks classic on the soundtrack, well that'll just be the cherry on top.

Here's the official description of the film, which will be released March 23rd, 2018:

ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.
