While New York City still has approximately 10,000 working payphones, they are mostly just abandoned, decaying mementos from that highly unsanitary era before mobile cellular devices. And a place to put stickers. But calling a loved one from a landline is now like the equivalent of sending a real, paper letter. So romantic!
Recently, Matt Adams and Katie Sokoler taped quarters to an old Brooklyn payphone, and topped it off with a sign instructing passerby to call someone they love—below you can see what happened next. There's even one little girl who had never used a pay phone before "and was pretty excited about the whole experience." Isn't it time you launched a Kickstarter to open your Vintage Locally-Sourced Payphone Cafe?
