Jay-Z has now joined his mentor Russell Simmons in his measured support for higher taxes on rich folk such as himself, telling CNN, "I wouldn’t mind paying more taxes if it went to the things that really mattered. If it went to education, people [in] poverty and if it went to the right things." He continued, “It should be clearly defined … where all the money’s being allocated. Because you can understand paying so much for taxes and then things not improving, you’re like, where’s everything going to?” We await the "Jay-Z for OMB director" campaign with bated breath.
CNN anchor Poppy Harlow also asks the rapper/businessman/baby-bump creator what he feels about the Occupy Wall Street movement, noting that he doesn't support it "financially" but promotes the "message" on his t-shirts. “It’s good. It’s a good thing that young people are getting out and getting their voice heard.”
Jay-Z may not have to worry about being taxed more if the GOP successfully calls President Obama's "You're in the pocket of rich people" bluff. House Republicans have proposed a bill to counter the failed Democratic Senate bill that would pay for an extension of the payroll tax cut with cuts to Medicare, unemployment benefits, and would speed up the Keystone XL pipeline. Obama has said he'd veto it, but he's beenwithout spineamenable to changes before!
