The most charming weddings article in the NY Times today is not in the Styles section, but the City section: It's about the many Queens couples who get married at Queens Borough Hall, a three-and-a-half story brick building designed by William Gehron and Andrew J. Thomas. About 9,000 couples got married there last year, and after being married by a deputy city clerk, sometimes they pose in front of a retired Redbird Subway car that is in the courtyard. The Times has a cute slideshow, too.
As for other the Times' other weddings and celebrations...
- There are 44 wedding announcements, plus the Vows columns
- There are 24 photographs of couples, plus the Vows photographs
- The youngest bride is 25, the youngest groom is 26
- The oldest bride is 58, the oldest groom is 64
- We bet Anike Proskurowski has some excellent honeymoon lingerie - she married Kenneth Natori, son of lingerie designer founder Josie Natori
- One couple knew each other during elementary school in Nigeria, but didn't meet again until they were in Cambridge, Ma. for college (the bride at Harvard and the groom at MIT)
- There were probably some excellent desserts at Kathleen Rudkin and William McMullan's Jr.'s wedding - Rudkin's great-grandmother Margaret Fogarty founded Pepperidge Farm!
- One bride wrote the book, "Why Smart Men Marry Smart Women"
- Two U.S. Army captains got married - the bride is a judge advocate at Fort Belvoir, Va., while the groom, a civil affairs officers, will be training in Fort Jackson, S.C. and stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., before getting his overseas assignment
- An MTA senior real estate manager got married, as did a residential project manager for Forest City Ratner Companies and a director of economic development and communications for the Fulton Mall Improvement Association.
