The Forms (Steve Albini-recorded) shimmering rock is our new go-to comfort music after a terrible night finally ends. You know, when you've totalled the rental car but the stereo still works and all you need is something until the tow truck comes? This is that formally febrile, meticulously messy something.
They're playing our show in Austin today, and will be playing a Todd P show in Brooklyn on March 30.

Let's get this out of the way, where did your band name originate?
As I was stapling my W-2 to my 1040-EZ back in Apr 2002 I thought "damn what a great band name this would make."
What is your first conscious memory of living in New York?
My parents accidentally left me behind at a Burger King when I was 3. I remember being pretty scared. Apparently when they came back to get me, I was found swinging the exterior door open and closed over and over again.
What is your favorite place to drink in NYC, and what's the best night to go out?
Thursday because you can find parking (the band van is my "car"), yet it's basically a weekend. I like Daddy's and occasionally The Magician if i'm up for looking at bloggers.
Now its time for some fill-in-the-blank action
"You know you've made it when…"
gothamist interviews you
"It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when…"
the music you do doesn't make you feel anything anymore.
"I'll never forget the first time I…"
was thrown in jail in the South Bronx and nicknamed "Oklahoma" by my fellow inmates...all over an unpaid parking ticket that turned out to be paid. scary.
"I'll never forget the first time [insert another band member's name here]…"
matt who plays drums tried to strangle me on stage moments before a show. we've known each other about 15 years...it can get exciting.
Let's have some fun with word association. Give me your immediate feelings on the following (if you've got no discernable feelings, make something up that won't embarrass you in the morning)
Yankees
Microsoft.
Mets
Jets Nets...Islanders?
CBGB
Cause of death: Queens hair-metal
Britney
Murphy (gotcha)
Pitchfork
7.0
Blogs
"Globs" anagram
Gentrification
i'm deciding whether to move to roho (roosevelt island) or yoho (yonkers). sobro is not an option given the aforementioned history.
A few quickies on the music tip
What was the most played song on your iPod (or an equivalent music playing device) in the past week?
I like Deerhoof's "The Perfect Me"
Who would be in your ultimate music supergroup, your all-star Olympic team of rock?
craig wedren and kevin shields on guitar/vocals; jesse keeler on bass; dave grohl on drums. that'd be a pretty sick band.
If you released a 7" what would you put on the cover?
________ because it would fit perfectly on the cover. i know i don't even need to fill that in.
What was the first/last album you bought on the day it was released?
First: Ghostbusters Soundtrack / Last: Borat Soundtrack. As you can see, my taste has become really refined over the years.
If Josh Schwartz, creator of the OC, asked your band to perform on his tv show (as Modest Mouse, the Killers Tom Vek and the Walkmen have) would you?
to be totally honest i've never seen the show. i think we'd've done 90210, but prolly not melrose. We have standards.
And finally...What came first, the music or the misery?
the chicken
