The following post is from our advertiser, Umbro.
On July 13th, 1977, Carlos Alberto Torres arrived into NYC as a soccer legend from the storied pitches of Brazil that also gave the world the incomparable Pele. Expecting the bright lights of Gotham to embrace him in the same way it had the rest of the New York Cosmos, instead, at 8:53pm, the city that never sleeps fell into complete darkness.
On the anniversary of the infamous "Blackout of 1977" the equally legendary soccer apparel brand Umbro is applying its tailoring ethos to its stunning new Autumn/Winter 2011 collection that celebrates the Cosmos, the burgeoning hip-hop movement that was then just dropping its first beats in the South Bronx and the understated elegance of the black on black athletic jersey. The collection includes a blacked out New York Cosmos home jersey along with the sleek track jackets and classic polo shirts that you will definitely want to be rocking the next time the lights go down. Check out the collection at the launch tonight form 9pm-midnight at the LES spot The Reed Space (151 Orchard St.) designed by Anomaly's Kevin Lyons. Regular hours are from 1pm-7pm on weekdays and noon-7pm on the weekends and the collection will be at The Reed Space until July 27th.
