During his press briefing on Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed that New York City's "We ❤️ NYC: the Homecoming Concert" will take place in Central Park on August 21st, as expected, but he also offered more details about the massive event, including a vaccine mandate.

Every audience member will be required to show proof of vaccination to get in (note: this means children under 12 will not be allowed.) They estimate around 60,000 can fit on The Great Lawn, and note that social distancing will not be required, and masks are optional.

Along with Clive Davis and Danny Meyer, who helped organize and book the event with Live Nation, the city offered the (very male-heavy) lineup as it stands so far:

The under-40s in our newsroom who are lucky to be living in an era when they can see Bruce Springsteen live have expressed some thoughts on this lineup.

Reached for comment, Jake Offenhartz said, “No disrespect to Barry Manilow and LL COOL J, but it's clear as day that the de Blasio administration didn't consult a single young person for this line up — or else they did, then roundly ignored them, Surface Transportation Advisory Council-style. The lineup is an affront to the city's young people, who sacrificed prime years of their lives for the common good, only to be invited to a show that features more aging soft rock luminaries and cable news personalities than actual contemporary artists. Enjoy your concert, the young kids will be in some other park."

For those unable to attend, the concert will also air and stream starting at 5 p.m. EST on CNN (and its streaming platforms). As for getting in, you'll need a ticket along with your proof of vaccination — 80% of the tickets will be free, with VIP tickets also available for purchase. Here are the details from the press release:

Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale VIP tickets beginning Thursday, July 29th at 10 a.m. EDT until Sunday, August 1st at 10 p.m. EDT. For all presale details, visit citientertainment.com. Additionally, Citi will be giving away 1,000 general admission tickets to Citi cardmembers on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Monday, August 2nd at 10 a.m. EDT. Free tickets, as well as VIP tickets for purchase, will be released to the public in batches at nyc.gov/HomecomingWeek starting on Monday, August 2nd at 10 a.m. EDT. Additional free and VIP ticket release dates and times are as follows:

In addition to the centerpiece concert, NYC Homecoming Week will offer events throughout the five boroughs from August 14th through August 22nd, including:

More announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

Yes, Stevie Wonder is playing MSG. No, you can't afford tickets. See these shows instead.

LCD Soundsystem also uses synthesizers. Ok, maybe not the same thing. But it's still a great month for music in NYC.
