The second trailer for The Punisher—a.k.a. Mr. Raspy Voice Murderer—hits a lot of the same sweet spots as the first trailer did. There's the requisite Metallica soundtrack ("One"), Desi from Girls provoking Frank Castle with his terrible beard, some vague military conspiracy, and lots of gun fetishizing. But there are some new things too, like an implication of a possible romance between Castle and Karen Page, and new shots of Castle in his signature Punisher ...long sleeve shirt? Pajama top? Hot Topic outfit?

According to the official Netflix description, "After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York's criminal underworld."

Oh hey, apropos of nothing in particular, I'm reminded of this quote from BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg about the stories Hollywood chooses to tell and what their impact may be on: "I think of this idea that exists out in the world: the only guy who can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. I don't know if that comes from real life, I think that comes from stories, from the stories we're telling and putting out there, and I wonder if we are taking enough responsibility for that."

And I know that The Punisher is a character with a long (and morally complicated) comic book history, and actor Jon Bernthal did a pretty good job playing him in the first half of Daredevil season two, but after the terrible Iron Fist and sadly forgettable The Defenders, I'm worried that the well is running a little dry on the Marvel Netflix universe. Maybe The Punisher works better as a bit of garnish on a plate, as opposed to a full meal. Or maybe after the events in Las Vegas and elsewhere around the country—events that happen on an all-too-regular basis—it doesn't really put me in the mood to seek entertainment or catharsis through the blood-soaked adventures of a vengeance-obsessed angry dude with a big collection of guns.

But maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud (or in this case, an M60 in the mud), and my inability to shut off my brain and just enjoy the exploits of Mr. Raspy Voice Murderer puts me in the minority, which is something I can own. Either way, the gunsploitation snuff series will be released on Netflix on Nov. 17th.
