We know it's cold outside, but trust us, this is a good week for literature (unlike last week, coughFREYcough). We've got some real fiction, some real non-fiction, and even a real memoir!

2006_01_arts_bookpost.jpgThe fun kicks off tonight at 7PM at 192 Books (10th Ave. at 21st St.) with Caroline Burke reading from Lee Miller: A Life, her new biography of the photographer. Seating is limited, so call (212) 255-4022 for reservations. Because of the reservation list, we'll also give you the heads up that on January 27th at 7PM, Julian Barnes will be reading at 192 Books from his latest book, Arthur and George. We'll also be reviewing that soon, to coincide with the Barnes reading blitz happening in New York over the next two weeks.

On Wednesday, January 18th, at Symphony Space (95th St. and Broadway), Kaye Gibbons talks about The Life All Around Me by Ellen Foster, a follow-up to her best-seller, Ellen Foster. It'll cost you $18 and the reading starts at 7PM.

Also tomorrow night, Paul Auster and Paula Fox are on stage at the 92nd Street Y (Lexington and 92nd St.), at 8PM, reading from their latest works. Tickets are $17.

In case the outer boroughs are starting to feel neglected from all the Manhattan coverage, there's a great reading going on in Long Island City. Marcy Demansky (with her first novel Twins) and Tara McCarthy (with Love Will Tear Us Apart) will be reading at LIC Bar on Sunday, January 22nd at 3PM, no cover. Both authors are Queens residents!

And next Monday (the 23rd), be sure to catch Tom Bissell reading from God Lives in St. Petersburg And Other Stories at the Half King (23rd St. and 10th Ave.) at 7PM, no cover as always.

See? Doesn't that make up for the faux-tragedy of Frey?
