New York Jets players and coaches were sent home on Friday after a player received a presumptive positive coronavirus test, according to multiple reports.

Sources told ESPN that the team was at their training center in New Jersey when they received the news, and were immediately sent home from the facility. The player will be re-tested, with results released at some point later in the day.

According to the Daily News, the team's offensive players are now being re-tested as well, as they are believed to have had close contact with the unnamed player.

The Jets, who lost the first four games of the season, were scheduled to play the Arizona Cardinals at home on Sunday. There are now questions about whether the west coast team should fly to New York, which they were scheduled to do today.

The NFL has experienced a spike in COVID casts in recent weeks, presenting an "an existential threat to the league’s adherence to playing the season according to its schedule," according to the Times.

At least 23 members of the Tennessee Titans have tested positive for the virus. In the last week, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and star cornerback Stephon Gilmore have both tested positive.

If confirmed, the case would represent the first COVID case for the Jets since the team reported to training camp in August.

We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
