There is a band playing Northsix tonight called Duran Duran Duran. We don't know anything about them, but based on their name alone we'll suggest checking them out. If you want to go with the safe bet though, head to the Delancey where Pela starts off their April residencey tonight.
Art Brut is all sold out, both Tuesday and Wednesday, so if you didn't get tickets (or if you just don't like them - it's okay, we don't judge) then perhaps you'd like to check out She Wants Revenge and Nightmare of You at Irving Plaza (which is appropriately a 16+ show) or the Blue Van and Eiffel Tower over at Northsix. Both of those shows are Tuesday.
Wednesday at Magnetic Field the Ponys and Soft are playing, this is highly recommended so we don't want to hear any complaining about how far away the venue is. Oddly enough, Soft is also listed as playing that very same night at the Delancey. Apparently, they ignore the laws of space, time and physics all together.
Sondre Lerche's Bowery show is all sold out Thursday night, but the older sister venue of the Ballroom isn't, and it's housing Neko Case. So buy a ticket now before they're all gone. Another solid, less expensive, choice for Thursday night is Gil Mantera's Party Dream, The Robocop Kraus and Human Television at Northsix. As of late we've been really digging the latter band. There's also a nice lineup at Rothko that night: Rahim, Other Passengers, Foreign Islands and El Jezel.
Friday Neko Case is back at Webster Hall, you've got no chance in hell in getting into The Raconteurs show at Irving Plaza and Arab Strap plays Southpaw. Get your tickets to the latter here. If you like your rock mixed with perogies we suggest you go check out The Hold Steady at Warsaw that night. We'd suggest that show even without the perogies actually.
Saturday is like rerun day. Soft, with Other Passengers and My Best Fiend at 119 Ingraham. Human Television is back, this time at Cake Shop, and Arab Strap is at Knitting Factory (main space). Sunday night is the Wolf Parade show that you hopefully got tickets to. We didn't, so we'll be weeping in the corner at home. Or we'll be at the Cake Shop for this supersized lineup: The Exit, Earl Greyhound, Vague Angels, Dreamdate, Emergency Party, Tigers & Monkeys, The End of the World, Marcellus Hall, Monuments, Robert Stillman's Horses, Larune's Bulgaria. Actually, we're lying - but that is a good lineup. We'll be at Mercury Lounge for Voxtrot [pictured] and the Glass Family. The former because they rock our world, the latter because they're named after the family in the Salinger books we love so much.
Finally this weekend, Brooklyn Fire Proof will be holding some benefit shows for their upcoming exhibition and performance series, FOLK. Saturday they've got White Magic, Apothecary Hymns, The Baird Sisters and The Big Huge. Sunday it's Death Vessel, Sharron Kraus and Craig Ventresco. Click here for more info, and while you're at it - check out these songs:
