The Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards their 62nd annual Golden Globes this Sunday, a sure sign that the season of gowns, the buzz and the surprise upset is upon us. Unlike the Oscars though, the Golden Globes covers television and film, so we get to see the disjointed mingling of the stars on the red carpet from both genres.
Speaking of the red carpet, this year look out for the gossip and designer name dropping smackdown between Star Jones Reynolds for E! and Joan and Melissa Rivers for the TV Guide Channel. For our taste, we prefer bitchy to fawning but that's such a personal thing.
As for the nominees, we expect "Desperate Housewives" to be a big winner in the tv categories and (hopefully) Sideways for the film, based on the critical groundswell for this small picture. Robin Williams will be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award, so expect 20 minutes or so of manic Robin peppered with various reaction shots of former co-stars.
Who do you hope to see take home some awards this season? The full nominees list are available on hfpa.org. Gothamist's previous coverage of the noms this year.
