For fans of director David Lynch, part of the fun of seeing any of his movies is trying to sort out meaning in his labyrinthian plots. Tonight at the IFC Center, audiences will get the chance to understand a bit more of what's going on inside the mind of the man as he presents Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo as well as one of his short films. As a part of the IFC Center's Movie Night program (where they turn over the screen to special guest artists, musicians, authors and filmmakers), Lynch is gearing up for the theatrical release of his new flick this Wednesday, Inland Empire. Starring Laura Dern, Jeremy Irons and Justin Theroux in a 3 hour movie shot lusciously on digital video, Inland Empire features gypsy curses, talking rabbits and hookers singing "The Loco-motion" amongst other Lynchian oddities. Also, if you've never seen Vertigo, the Hitchcock classic starring Jimmy Stewart as a lovelorn, neurotic detective following the mysterious Kim Novak all over San Francisco, you're missing out. It's brilliant, strange and very beautiful—all adjectives Lynch seems to aspire to in his moviemaking.
$15 // IFC Center [6th Avenue at 3rd St.] // 7:30 pm // Advance tickets are sold out, but some may be available at the door.
