The U.S. National Parks Service is turning 100, and across the country nature-lovers are celebrating with commemorative coins and, uh, stamps! And here in New York, we'll all have the chance to toast the NPS centennial with a party in Brooklyn Bridge Park hosted by Questlove and Bill Nye the Science Guy.
On August 22nd from 1:30 to 10 p.m., Pier 1 of Brooklyn Bridge Park will be packed with family-friendly games, a free ice cream social, and a surprise musical performance. Things really get interesting at 7:45, though, when Bill Nye will host an "interactive experience" that gives party-goers the power to control the color of the spire atop One World Trade Center. Exactly how the spire will be controlled is still shrouded in mystery, but the National Parks Service has confirmed the Science Guy is bringing a "giant digital circuit board" and points out that It'll be the first time the public has this level of World Trade Center control.
After Bill Nye's finished with his mad scientist operation, Questlove will take over and DJ a two-hour set, which, if you've ever been to Bowl Train, you know is a guaranteed great time. All the activities are completely free, and you can find out more about the National Parks Service's 100th birthday events here.
