After years of rumors, Dan Akroyd pipe dreams, shredded scripts, and half-hearted late night talk show questions, Bill Murray has finally relented and reportedly agreed to make a cameo in the new all-female Ghostbusters reboot.
Coming Soon spotted Murray with towel-in-hand in Boston, Massachusetts this week "to reportedly film a role in director Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters movie." But while the photos only prove that Murray was in Boston and definitely was holding a towel, the Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that Murray will indeed appear in the film (though there's no indication whether he's playing Peter Venkman or a new character).
Murray was very positive about the new cast, including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, when he spoke at Comic Con earlier this summer, noting, "They got like a murderers’ row there."
Feig and the main cast—along with Chris Hemsworth as the Ghostbusters’ secretary, Andy Garcia as the Mayor of NYC, Michael K Williams, Matt Walsh, and Neil Casey as the film's villain—have been filming in Boston for much of the summer, with mostly accurate Ecto-1 cars and highly inaccurate NY subway signage.
The new Ghostbusters film is due out July 22, 2016. The rumored all-male Ghostbusters spinoff either is or isn't happening depending on the day of the week, but will likely star Channing Tatum, or maybe Chris Pratt, or perhaps neither of them.
