The winter storm blew through town last night, leaving in its wake happy pets and happy children and an impressively well-coordinated clean-up process. Oh, and freezing temperatures that will only get worse as the evening progresses. Whether you decide to heed Mayor Striptease's advice and not venture outside, or take a long stroll under the street lamps, or maybe just lay back in your hot tub, below you'll find 25 wonderful chilly weather songs to get the mood just right.
Note: We also think you can't go wrong with Phillip Glass, or Kate Bush's 50 Words For Snow, or Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion. But clearly there are too many wonderful songs in the universe to include all of them, so make sure to mention more favorites below. Except that stupid Red Hot Chili Peppers song. Nobody bring that one up.
1. Fleet Foxes-"White Winter Hymnal"
2. Lindsay Buckingham-"Holiday Road"
3. Vashti Bunyan-"Winter Is Blue"
4. Guided By Voices-"Doughnut For A Snowman"
5. The Bangles-"Hazy Shady Of Winter"
6. Belle And Sebastian-"The Fox In The Snow"
7. Ray Charles-"Winter Wonderland"
8. Harry Nilsson-"Snow"
9. Animal Collective-"Winter's Love"
10. Tom Rush-"Urge For Going"
11. Captain Beefheart-"Steal Softly Through Snow"
12. Fountains Of Wayne-"Valley Winter Song"
13. Elliott Smith-"Angel In The Snow"
14. Galaxie 500-"The Snow Is Falling"
15. Elvis Costello-"I Felt The Chill Before The Winter Came"
16. Wendy & Bonnie-"The Winter Is Cold"
17. The Rolling Stones-"Winter"
18. Big Maceo Merriweather-"Winter Time Blues"
19. Real Estate-"Snow Days"
20. Neil Young-"Winterlong"
21. Super Furry Animals-"Summer Snow"
22. The Walkmen-"While I Shovel The Snow"
