The NYPD's bomb squad responded to an incident in Lower Manhattan early this morning, after a man allegedly claiming to have a bomb in his car crashed into the vehicle blockade outside a federal building.

According to police, the 36-year-old driver of a white Ford Fusion with New Jersey plates intentionally drove into the security barriers outside the Jacob Javits Federal Building at about 3:45 a.m. The building, located at Duane Street and Broadway, is home to several federal agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as courtrooms for immigration hearings.

The man, who appeared to be emotionally disturbed, told cops he had a bomb in the trunk of his car, according to an NYPD spokesperson. Within 30 minutes, the vehicle was deemed safe by the bomb squad.

The man was taken into custody at the scene, and later transported to Bellevue Hospital. It's unclear whether he sustained serious injuries, or if he'll face charges.

No one else was hurt in the incident, police said.
