In a city with venues like the hellscape chic Terminal 5 and that midtown behemoth Madison Square Garden, Forest Hills Stadium offers a sweet escape. It's the closest this city will ever get to those utopian venues of Los Angeles, where locals watch top acts perform from table seating in an al fresco amphitheater in the Hills. Year-round. Must be nice! Anyway, back to us, the greatest city in the world.

Here we have Forest Hills Stadium, which has a long history of bringing legendary acts to the Queens tennis courts (The Beatles, The Supremes, Joan Baez, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Garland, Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones—ever heard of 'em?). The 14,000-capacity stadium, which opened in 1923 and offers a cabin as a backstage area for artists, turned off the concert arm of the business in the 1980s, but thankfully they brought the music back in 2013. The booking has been nothing short of fantastic since, with a nod to their past on every annual lineup—Paul Simon, Dolly Parton, and Tom Petty all took the stage in recent years.

And this year's lineup is shaping up nicely, too—while more acts will be announced, here's what this summer at the tennis courts looks like so far:

And did we mention the food? We'll have more updates to come on that front, too.

As for how to get there, it's probably easier than you think: Take the E, M, F, or R lines to the 71st Avenue Forest Hills station in Queens, then walk South on 71st Avenue under the train tracks. Or take the LIRR to the Forest Hills Station. The stadium is located at 1 Tennis Place in Forest Hills.
