Last week, the MTA announced that there would be a delay on a set of limited edition Game Of Thrones-emblazoned MetroCards planned for release in advance of the hotly-anticipated final season of the show. Today, we've learned that the MetroCards will be available starting tomorrow (Tuesday, 12/4) at Grand Central Terminal—and you can get a first look at them up above.
There will be 250,000 copies of the four MetroCards available at in the Grand Central subway station while supplies last. Each features an iconic moment from the past seven seasons, including Cersei Lannister's Walk Of Atonement, Jon Snow's Revival, The Night's King at the Massacre of Hardhome, and the birth of Dany's dragons—sorry, I mean, Daenerys Stormborn Of The House Targaryen, The First Of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals And The First Men, Khaleesi Of The Great Grass Sea, Breaker Of Chains, Mother Of Dragons, Sleeper Of Daario, Inadvertent Incinerator Of Little Children, The Meereen Machine, Into The Distance Starer, High Lord Of Title-Heavy Introductions, Queen Of Nothing, Arriver At Opportune Times, Master Of Smooth Breakups, Definer Of Perpetuity, Asker Of People To Bend The Knee, Incest Survivor.
HBO adds that the four GoT cards will be dispensed, in no particular order, at the larger MetroCard vending machines and booths throughout the station (that includes at 42nd St & Park Ave, 42nd St & Lexington Ave, 42nd St & 3rd Ave). In addition, fans may notice that there are 150 variations of GoT ads and art put up throughout Grand Central, including on subway pillars, turnstiles, staircases, walls and more.
For some context, this is the same amount of cards that the MTA printed in honor of David Bowie (technically, it was in conjunction with the "David Bowie Is" exhibit at Brooklyn Museum) last spring—far more than what they printed up in honor of Paul McCartney's last album, Egypt Station, in September. Other popular special edition MetroCards have commemorated the return of Twin Peaks, Supreme collectibles, and Barbara Kruger's side hustle.
Game Of Thrones returns to HBO sometime in April 2019. And the Official Game Of Thrones Power Rankings will return a day after whenever that is.
