The police are looking for a subway rider who allegedly placed a sticker with a swastika on a train earlier this month.
According to the NYPD, the incident took place around 11:52 a.m. on November 4th, on an southbound 6 train. When the train neared Bleecker Street, the male suspect allegedly placed the sticker and then exited the train car.
The suspect, who is wanted for aggravated harassment, is described as being in his 40s, 5'10" and about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing all dark clothing. A subway rider took photographs of the suspect and gave them to the police.
Police Commissioner James O'Neill has blamed the "current atmosphere" for the rise in hate crimes. The NYPD say there have been 309 hate crimes reported so far this year (up from 297 over the same period in 2017), and about half of those reported incidents have been anti-Semitic in nature.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crimestoppers website at www.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.com, on Twitter @NYPDTips or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
