Police are looking for a man accused of attacking two men who had just left a gay bar in Williamsburg. The two victims were so violently assaulted that they lost consciousness. [UPDATE: A 25-year-old Queens resident was arrested for the assault on Wednesday.]

The incident took place at 12:55 a.m., Sunday, September 23rd. According to the NYPD, the suspect approached the two men in front of 540 Metropolitan Avenue and "made anti-sexual orientation statements and assaulted them."

He punched the 34-year-old man in the face, knocking him unconscious, and then, police say, "grabbed the 29-year-old and threw him against a tree, also rendering him unconscious."

The 34-year-old victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a fractured shoulder, while the 29-year-old was taken to Woodhull Hospital for a broken finger. It's unclear if the victims and the attacker had prior contact.

The attack took place around the corner from Metropolitan at 559 Lorimer.

A witness took a picture of the suspect, who fled the scene, and police describe the supsect as last seen wearing a black shirt, beige pants and black and white sneakers.

"We need for people to take action, not just to find and arrest this one person, we need people to take action to go out and vote and make sure that we don't have people and leaders in this country that actively dog whistle against my very existence," said local resident Aidan Pongrice.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
