Open House New York (OHNY), the annual event that opens closed doors to the public, is being held the weekend of October 12th. Reservations for the tours (which take place in all five boroughs) are open September 25th (at 11 a.m.), and the hottest tickets will fill up fast, so you'll want to go over the list in advance. While a majority of the events are Open Access, meaning you don't need a reservation, the more intriguing ones are capped with limited capacity. You can check out the full reservation guide here.

If you get shut out, OHNY notes that "reservations are highly competitive and many visitors are frustrated by how quickly sites and tours sell out, often within seconds after opening. If you do not get reservations for a site, check that site’s web listing at ohny.org (after September 18) for recommendations of other sites that are nearby or similar."

This year's "top sites," according to an OHNY rep, are Brooklyn Navy Yard Building 77, Domino Park, Hunter's Point South Waterfront Park, The Metropolitan Opera, Pier 17, and Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. But those seem pretty weak! Our top pick: the Officers' Club/South Battery on Governors Island. This was part of our recent tour inside the abandoned buildings on the Island, and a rep for the Trust of Governors Island tells us this is the first time they are opening it to the public (at least, the main floor ballrooms).

You can check out the full list of tours here.
