A little girl crossing the street was struck by a cyclist after getting off her school bus, security camera footage posted to website Yeshiva World shows. The incident reportedly took place last Tuesday around 4 p.m. on Lee Avenue and Middleton Street in Williamsburg.
The NYPD said paramedics took the little girl to NYU Langone hospital in Brooklyn for treatment for leg pain after the incident, according to the New York Post. The cyclist claimed that he was unable to stop at the time given the wet road conditions, and no charges have been filed.
Under New York state law, the fine for passing a stopped school bus ranges from a minimum of $250 for a first violation to a maximum of $1,000 for three violations in three years.
Pedestrians are far more likely to be struck and seriously injured by drivers than by bicyclists, but it does happen. In one high-profile incident a woman walking in Central Park was fatally struck by a cyclist in 2014.
