Harvey Weinstein has been hit with a new indictment on three additional felony sex charges. He's charged with sexually assaulting a third victim in New York, and could now face life in prison if convicted.
The Manhattan DA has charged Weinstein with an additional count of criminal sexual act in the first degree for a forcible sexual act against a third woman in 2006, as well as two counts of predatory sexual assault, a Class A-II felony predatory charge. According to the indictment, Weinstein is accused of forcibly performing oral sex on the unidentified woman on July 10th, 2006. He faces between 10 years and life in prison if convicted.
"A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s Penal Law," district attorney Cyrus Vance said in a statement. "This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward. Our investigation continues. If you are a survivor of the predatory abuse with which Mr. Weinstein is charged, there is still time to pursue justice. Please call us at 212-335-9373."
In an email, Weinstein attorney Ben Brafman said his client "will enter a plea of Not Guilty to the new charges. Mr. Weinstein maintains that all of these allegations are false and he expects to be fully vindicated. Furthermore to charge Mr. Weinstein as a Predator when the interactions were each consensual is simply not justified."
Dozens of women (the NY Times says "over 80") have accused Weinstein of sexually harassing, coercing, and/or assaulting them over the decades as he wielded enormous influence in the entertainment business as an Oscar-winning producer. In May, Weinstein was indicted on charges of rape in the first and third degrees as well as criminal sexual act in the first degree stemming from allegations involving two different women. He pleaded not guilty during a court appearance last month.
The Daily Beast also reported last month on Weinstein's close relationship with restaurant magnate Giuseppe Cipriani, and how he allegedly used the various Cipriani hotels, bars and restaurants as his "hunting ground" for women.
