It's almost Manhattanhenge Season! That annual spectacle that brings our city's grid system in perfect alignment with the sunset is almost here, and the American Museum of Natural History has just announced this year's dates:

Manhattanhenge 2018 Dates

TUESDAY, MAY 29, AT 8:13 PM EDT (HALF SUN)
WEDNESDAY, MAY 30, AT 8:12 PM EDT (FULL SUN)

THURSDAY, JULY 12, AT 8:20 PM EDT (FULL SUN)
FRIDAY, JULY 13, AT 8:21 PM EDT (HALF SUN)

In addition to the big events, on July 12th there will be a program at the Hayden Planetarium "highlighting the history and astronomy of this spectacle."

The term Manhattanhenge (a play on Gamehenge Stonehenge) came from the brain of Neil deGrasse Tyson (Director of the Hayden Planetarium), to describe the sun setting "in perfect alignment with Manhattan’s East-West numbered streets, creating cinema-worthy photo opportunities."

You'll want to hit one of these prime viewing locations on the above dates (and at least a half hour early to get a spot): 14th, 34th, 42nd, 57th, and 79th Streets (or any large cross streets).
