Stop me if you've heard this one before. Temperatures are expected to be much warmer than normal for the next several days. A building ridge in the jet stream and a high pressure system to our south will warm the area into the lower to mid 70s from today through Monday. Average highs for this time of year are in the lower 60s and they drop to the upper 50s by the end of the month.
Tonight is only one day after a new moon, and the clear skies will make for good viewing of the Orionid meteor shower.
Unseasonably mild air, gusty winds, low humidity and a lack of recent rainfall make for ideal conditions for the spread of fire. On a page formatted to bring back fond memories of the mid-1990s Web the National Weather Service is warning that fires could spread quickly if ignition occurs.
Our next chance of rain looks to be either late Monday night or sometime on Tuesday. That's when the jet stream starts moving eastward and the ridge responsible for the warm, dry weather gets replaced by a deepening trough. Tuesday could be quite wet but a cold front passage on Wednesday will end the rain and drop the temperature back down to near normal.
