A second location of London-born Japanese chain Wagamama opened this week in the East Village. This new outpost took the place of Asian food market M2M, which is reportedly reopening a block away on Third Avenue sometime in the future.

The new Third Avenue store is dwarfed by the NYC flagship, a large, bi-level restaurant adjacent to Madison Square Park. The new location offers only one floor for noodle slurping, but it's outfitted in the same attractive wooden booths and tables that are a hallmark of the brand.

The menu covers quite a bit of territory in Japanese cuisine, including bowls of ramen; donburi rice bowls; yaki soba; curries; and lots of fried snacks including chili squid and duck gyoza. Eventually this outpost will have a liquor license, but for now it's soft drinks only.

It'll be interesting to see how this location performs considering its proximity to St. Marks Place, which is home to quite a few excellent Japanese eateries like Zen, Kenka and Kura.
