With Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer and Sasheer Zamata all having left the show, Saturday Night Live announced today that they have added three new cast members for the upcoming season. The new featured players for the 43rd season, which kicks off this weekend, are Chris Redd, Heidi Gardner and Luke Null.
Chicago sketch comic Chris Redd, who appeared in the woefully-underrated Andy Samberg/Lonely Island film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping as Hungry the Hunter, was rumored to be joining the show last year. The Second City vet has had prominent roles in Love, Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later, and Disjointed; his Comedy Central half-hour special premiered earlier this month as well.
Gardner, a Groundlings performer and actress, was a writer and voice actor on Crackle's Bryan Cranston-produced animated comedy SuperMansion. She also will appear in the upcoming film Life of the Party, written by and starring Melissa McCarthy.
Null is a Chicago-based comedian who has been improvising, writing and performing in sketches at the iO Theater. He also really, really likes musical comedy:
According to Deadline, the show has also added seven new writers: "Sam Jay (one of Comedy Central’s Comics To Watch), Gary Richardson (appeared in The Law Firm: Law & Disorder as member of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade; other credits include Spider-Man Homecoming), Erik Marino, Andrew Dismukes (performed at FunFunFun Fest, SXSW, The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, and The Moontower Comedy Festival), Steven Castillo, Claire Friedman and Nimesh Patel."
Ryan Gosling will be the host of this weekend's season premiere of SNL (with musical guest Jay-Z); Gal Gadot will host on October 7th, with musical guest Sam Smith, and Kumail Nanjiani will host on October 14th, with musical guest Pink (or P!nk).
