A new, rather unsurprising study has declared LaGuardia 2017's worst airport in America, and though we're supposedly getting a shiny new LaGuardia by 2022, people still have a few years left to walk through traffic to make their flights before we bump this baby up in the rankings.
Global market research company JD Power released their 2017 North American Airport Satisfaction Survey results today, and when it comes to large airports, LaGuardia is at the way bottom of the list. Americans are big fans of John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California; Tampa International Airport, and Dallas Love Field, for instance, but at only a 654 satisfaction score (on a 1,000-point scale) LaGuardia lags far behind even the second-to-last airport on the list, Philadelphia International Airport, which clocks in at 715 points. The average score, according to the study, is 745.
And LaGuardia is in some pretty bad company. At the bottom of JD Power's mega airport rankings sits Newark Liberty International Airport, which clocks in at a sad 686 points. John F. Kennedy Airport fares a little better, at fourth-worst with 727 points—O'Hare International Airport in Chicago and Los Angeles International Airport fall between the two New York-area hubs. Orlando International Airport, Detroit Wayne County Airport, and McCarran International Airport near Las Vegas make the top of that list.
New York's airports are notoriously sucky, plus they're difficult to get to and going to them in the first place means you're leaving New York, which is always a mistake. LaGuardia's famed leaking ceilings are being replaced by grand new terminals, but I've noticed my preferred Auntie Anne's kiosk has gone downhill since renovations began, so really there's no upside.
