An uncaring driver in Washington Heights left a woman clinging to life after he hit her with his car while she was crossing the street and then left the scene.

According to the NYPD, the 42-year-old victim was crossing St. Nicholas Avenue going west to east just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, when the driver of a dark-color Chrysler 300M turned left from West 157th Street onto St. Nicholas Avenue. The driver then struck the woman, who was walking her dog, and kept going south on St. Nicholas Avenue. Police released surveillance footage of the egregious hit-and-run that they got from a nearby apartment:

Police and EMS who responded to the crash found the woman in the street with severe injuries to her head and body. EMS rushed the woman to St. Luke's Hospital, where she's listed in critical condition.

ABC7 spoke to the super of the building where the woman lived, who told the channel that he heard the crash, and then saw the car speed away. Other witnesses told ABC that they recognized the car, which they said was usually parked in front of a nearby building. A neighborhood resident told the Daily News that the woman lives with her fiance, her elderly mother and two children.

The driver of the charger remains at large, and cops said the investigation into the crash is continuing.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
