Since he hosted SNL in the spring, things have been relatively quiet in Louis C.K. land lately—way too quiet considering the comedian's prolific nature, and habit for filming things in secret (like last year's surprise web series Horace and Pete). But we've now found out what he's been up to over the last year: C.K. has been busy directing his first movie in over 16 years, which will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Which means Louis C.K. has finally come up with a follow-up to Pootie Tang.

According to TIFF, C.K.'s film I Love You, Daddy was filmed "entirely in secret," and was shot in 35mm and in black and white. It stars C.K. as "Glen Topher, a successful television producer and writer" in the film, with Chloe Grace Moretz co-starring as his daughter. The film also stars John Malkovich, Helen Hunt, Rose Byrne, Charlie Day and frequent collaborator Pamela Adlon. TIFF kicks off September 7th; it's unclear when the film will get a wide release. (Perhaps its reception at TIFF will decide that.)

C.K.'s last film was 2001's inscrutable Pootie Tang, which he has seemed ambivalent about in recent years. "Pootie Tang was a huge mistake, it should have never have been made," he said back in 2012. "That experience was very painful, I was sucking at making the movie and got fired off of it, and they put my name on it anyway... But failing at Pootie Tang is one of the reasons for why this show [Louie] is good. The army of failures I've had are the reasons that I'm good at what I'm doing now."

In other C.K. news, he's going to be a guest on Family Guy this season; while he was helping promote the new season of Adlon's Better Things, he said he may never do another season of Louie (or at least not the version we saw previously); and he performed an unannounced set at a basement comedy show in Spanish Harlem.
