It's been a bit of a tough time to be a liberal, what with waking up every day and looking at the news and asking yourself what happened to all that progress you thought was being made. Me? I don't know, I'm just an idiot blogger, but maybe Ta-Nehisi Coates can explain some things when he drops in to the Kings Theatre next month.
Yes, one of America's big time intellectuals will be at the Kings Theatre on October 4th to talk about his new book We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy. You know this isn't just your average book release and is in fact a certified Event, because it's being held in a beautifully restored theater built back when people cared about craftsmanship.
Coates will be chatting with Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg about his new book, a collection of essays from the Obama era like "The Case For Reparations" and "The Black Family in the Age of Mass Incarceration," along with eight new essays that go over each year of the Obama administration through Coates's experiences. The book ends, as you might expect, with an essay going over the backlash to Obama and the 2016 election that led to what Coates called the country's "first white president."
Tickets for the event, put on through Greenlight Books, will go on sale on August 9th at 7 a.m. and will come in two flavors: $40 for a ticket and a copy of the book, $20 for the ticket on its own.
