Cycling is no longer a "niche" activity embraced only by weirdos and loners, Citi Bike CEO Jay Walder said, at the same press conference in which DOT commissioner Polly Trottenberg announced that the city is planning on expanding the bike network in 10 neighborhoods. It's time to celebrate then, and coincidentally, Citi Bike will be 100 percent free to use on Wednesday, August 2nd.
The day of system-wide free riding is courtesy of a partnership between noosa yoghurt and Citi Bike, and should help you out if you've had it up to here with the damn subways. The yoghurt company, which branded Citi Bike stations around the city in June, will finally be providing something to riders other than a different form of advertising tomorrow.
Anyone who wants to take advantage of the free bikes can get a code for free half-hour rides all day from the Citi Bike app on their phones. And if you happen to be near Bowling Green, noosa is setting up a free breakfast bar there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with samples of their yoghurt, which they claim is "the perfect snack or indulgent treat." Is it? Who am I to decide? You guys keep providing the free bikes and you can tell us this stuff makes us bulletproof for all I care.
