12 people, including two police officers, were injured when an SUV driver and a bus driver collided this afternoon on 125th Street in Harlem.
An NYPD spokesperson said that at about noon, the SUV driver rear-ended the MTA bus and mounted the sidewalk, striking two pedestrians. According to a spokesperson for the FDNY, the collision occurred in front of 79 East 125th Street, and the current number of injuries stemming from the collision is 12.
According to the FDNY, after the bus driver and SUV driver collided, the driver of the SUV lost control of the car, jumped the curb and crashed into a fire hydrant's safety guards.
The FDNY spokesperson said that ten civilians were injured in the collision, including two who suffered serious injuries, and that all of them were taken to Harlem Hospital to be treated for their injuries. In addition to the civilian injuries, the spokesperson said that two police officers on the scene were injured as well. One officer refused medical attention at the scene and the other was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.
The driver of the SUV, who suffered one of the most serious injuries according to the FDNY, had his legs pinned in the car and had to be removed from the vehicle by firefighters with a variety of rescue tools.
