Police have arrested a man who earlier this month allegedly groped a woman on the N train, followed her off of the train in South Brooklyn, and then attempted to rape her on the sidewalk, a spokesman for the department said.
Christopher Clemente, 20, was arrested at the 68th Precinct station in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the NYPD. It was not immediately clear if he turned himself in, or was taken in pursuant to an investigation.
Clemente, of Bay Ridge, has no prior arrests. He has been charged with attempted rape, forcible touching, and sexual abuse.
The victim, a 39-year-old woman, was riding a southbound N train shortly after 4 a.m. on Friday, May 5th, when Clemente allegedly approached her and "engaged her in conversation," police said. Clemente then allegedly groped her breasts. The woman quickly left the train at the Bay Parkway stop, but the man allegedly followed her, continuing to try to speak with her.
The woman was outside of a deli at 6409 Bay Parkway near 65th Street in Mapleton when Clemente allegedly grabbed her arms and "tried to drag her down," according to the NYPD. The woman fell to the ground, and Clemente allegedly climbed on top of her, pinned her arms down, and attempted to rape her. He got up and ran from the scene when the woman called out for help.
Attorney information for Clemente was not immediately available.
