The future gets closer every day that you're alive. Need proof? Last month, the MTA announced that the 53rd Street R station would close for 6 months in order to let contractors transform it into an exciting station of the future. And now, one month later, the MTA is reminding everyone that the Bay Ridge Avenue R stop will undergo a similar transformation, the station closing for 6 months soon to go into its beautifying chrysalis.
Starting on Sunday, April 29, the Bay Ridge Avenue R stop will close for 6 months so that contractors can rush in and make a number of improvements. The changes to the station include adding new digital signage and LED lighting, fixing up the walls and ceilings, installing new granite floors and installing the all-important USB ports for charging devices on the go. While the station is closed, the MTA suggests straphangers take either the R at 77th Street, the N and R at 59th Street or the B9, B37, or B63 buses.
The next station after the Bay Ridge Avenue stop to get the 6 month closure treatment, which Governor Cuomo and the MTA claim allow contractors to get their work done faster than night and weekend work, will be the Prospect Av station on June 5. Just remember though, that all of these fancy electronics will just look like fancy useless baubles in the even of another sudden mass power outage.
