Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced today that New York State will join a federal lawsuit spearheaded by the ACLU and other groups that intends to challenge President Trump's executive order banning immigrants from majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States.

In a press release, Schneiderman said his office will file to join the lawsuit against Trump and his administration, citing Trump's "unconstitutional, unlawful, and fundamentally un-American" executive action. The lawsuit was initially filed by the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale University, the Urban Justice Center, and the National Immigration Law Center in addition to the ACLU.

"I'm proud to partner with these organizations to fight to permanently strike down this dangerous and discriminatory order," Schneiderman said in a statement. "I will continue to do everything in my power to not just fight this executive order, but to protect the families caught in the chaos sown by President Trump's hasty and irresponsible implementation - including pressing DHS and CBP to provide a full list of those still detained and allow them access to legal service providers."

Washington state's Attorney General, Bob Ferguson, announced yesterday that he too would file a lawsuit against Trump, DHS, and other high-ranking officials in the Trump administration. Ferguson was the first state AG to do so.
