UPDATE: The NYPD has now notified the media that this was not a hit-and-run, and that the first motorist to strike Brooker remained at the scene. A spokesman was unable to provide any further information about the conflicting reports. (This article has been edited accordingly.)
A 29-year-old woman has died after being struck by an SUV driver, and then the driver of a school bus, at a busy Brooklyn intersection Tuesday morning. According to police, Hermanada Brooker had been trying to cross Nostrand Avenue at King's Highway at roughly 6:45 a.m. this morning when she was hit by the driver of a white SUV.
Moments later, Brooker was also struck by the driver of a school bus as he attempted to make a left turn onto Nostrand Avenue from King's Highway. EMS workers found Brooker lying in the roadway and rushed her to Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital, but she could not be saved. The NYPD says Brooker was fatally struck three blocks from her home.
According to police, the SUV and school bus drivers both remained at the scene. The Post reports that no children were on the bus at the time of the collision. Police say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
