Tim Ho Wan, the dim sum-centric eatery started by Mak Kwai Pui and Leung Fai Keung in Hong Kong, opens their first United States location—and 45th global location—this Friday on 4th Avenue in the East Village. The restaurant, noted as the the world's least expensive eatery to earn a Michelin nod, classifies its chefs as "Dim Sum Specialists" who'll be crafting classic dishes, all of which are priced under $5.50.
Though technically in soft-open mode until mid-January, the restaurant's offering its full menu beginning on Friday, including dishes like baked BBQ Pork Buns, Steamed Egg Cakes, vegetarian Fried Spring Rolls, Siu Mai, and Steamed Shrimp Dumplings. The spring rolls and the French Toast with Custard Filling are both unique to NYC.
As a bedrock of the meal, tea also has a starring role, with six different varieties of hot tea available, plus less traditional offerings including beer, wine and slushies.
