A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to stab a fellow ferry rider during a fight over the use of an outlet on the Staten Island Ferry on Monday night.
A police spokesman said that Kendell Nesbit, 30, got into a verbal dispute with another ferry rider on the hurricane deck of the ferry on Monday night at around 8:30 p.m. During the argument over the use of an outlet, police say Nesbit pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the man, but missed.
Nesbit was arrested after the incident and charged with a variety of crimes, including assault in the second degree, menacing in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon. Nesbit has 15 prior arrests, according to a police source.
Fights over the outlets had become such a problem on the ferry that the DOT cut off their power this summer, after a ferry worker was punched during a dispute over the use of an outlet and had to go on medical leave. New Yorkers who feel like they're missing out on outlet-based conflict won't have to feel that way for too much longer. Earlier this year, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the MTA would be rolling out almost 2,000 buses with charging ports by 2020, and will introduce hundreds of subway trains with USB charging ports over the next couple of years.
