A 25-year-old off-duty NYC correction officer was killed while she was sitting in her car last night. Alastasia Bryan, who recently graduated from the correction academy, was found with gunshot wounds to her head and torso near East 73rd Street and Avenue L in Flatlands.
Police responded to a 911 call at 9:17 p.m., and found Bryan unconscious and unresponsive. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene. A "dark colored Honda rolled up and began blasting... Five shots rang out and a single bullet struck the officer in the head, killing her instantly as the shooter sped away," according to the Post's sources.
Bryan had been working at the Anna M. Kross Center at Rikers Island. NBC New York reports that "detectives had obtained surveillance video showing a man getting out of a vehicle and walking up to Bryan's car. The video shows the man opening fire and then getting back into his vehicle before taking off, police said."
Correction Officers' Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen said, "Tonight our correction family and the entire City of New York is shocked and grieving the horrific murder of one of the youngest members of New York City's Boldest, who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant while sitting in her car in Brooklyn. There are no words that can express the depth of this tragedy. The COBA will do everything we can to support the officer's family during this time and we will not rest until the assailant or assailants are brought to justice."
"She was a lovable person, kind-hearted and cared for everyone," her uncle Anthony Moore, told WCBS 2. "We leave everything in their hands and take care of the culprit by the grace of God."
