Yesterday, we took a close look at this year's ambitious and artistic holiday windows at Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys. Up above, you can feast your eyes on what three more of the big department stores—Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor—created to send you into the most pleasant consumerist fugue state imaginable.
The comforting days of seeing Snoopy, Charlie Brown and all their friends in the Macy's windows have unfortunately passed into history, and this year's display seemed a bit less focused than previous years, with some general Christmas tropes but no clear overall cohesion. Lord & Taylor's had the cutest display, with lots of cartoon animals. (They even added squirrels to the lights outside to complement the ones inside some of the windows.)
Saks Fifth Avenue had the biggest production of all the stores, with a mix of "holiday" windows under the theme "Land of 1000 Delights" featuring lots of intricate moving parts, as well as "fashion" windows featuring mannequins displaying their latest wares (they are still a store, after all). It is, overall, more refreshing and fun than last year's dark "Winter Palace" theme.
And as a bonus: if you are wondering what the single weirdest holiday display window in NYC is, look no further than the Christmas In New York store on Fifth Avenue, which seems to depict a strange sex act between a young boy and his teddy bear.
