The NYPD is searching for the man who sucker-punched a customer at an East Village restaurant and bar last week, knocking him unconscious. NBC reports the 29-year-old victim had been dining inside the covered patio section of B Bar and Grill near the corner of East 4th Street and the Bowery at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23rd when he was assaulted, apparently without warning.

Security camera footage of the incident shows the victim suddenly set upon by the attacker who landed multiple blows before other patrons rushed to stop him.

According to the NYPD, the unidentified victim initially went home after the incident, but later checked himself in at Lenox Hill Hospital, called police, and reported the attack.

Speaking to NBC, the victim voiced concerns that he may have been targeted because he was gay. It's a scary thing," he told the news network. "It's not something anybody ever needs to go through."

Police currently have no description of the suspect, and an investigation is ongoing. A police spokesperson could not confirm to Gothamist that the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
