A 61-year-old man is in stable condition after the driver of a yellow cab jumped a curb and struck him Friday morning on the Upper East Side.

The driver of the cab, a 57-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to a spokesperson for the NYPD, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. along the York Avenue and East 79th Street. The cab came up over the curb on the east side of York just south of 79th, hitting the pedestrian and crashing into buildings at 1492 and 1492 York Avenue. The pedestrian was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The spokesperson said there was no structural damage to the building.

Employees who answered the phone at York Deli and Healthwise Pharmacy, which are located on the ground floors of 1492 and 1494 York, respectively, told Gothamist that the crash had damaged the windows of their shops. They both said they had come in after the crash and had not witnessed it themselves.

Gustabo Mejia, the owner of York Deli, told ABC7 that one of his co-workers narrowly avoided being struck by the cab. He said he was glad Friday is a holiday.

"There was not many people like are usually here," he said. "Usually by this time on a regular school day it's full of kids and people."
